The Body Shop Fresh Nude Foundation was launched earlier this year, and The Body Shop claims that this foundation "mimics the look of fresh-faced natural skin with a nude glow" to "make every day a good skin day". It also claims provide "up to 24h moisturization", and doesn't that sound great?

The Body Shop Fresh Nude Foundation: The Body Shop's latest foundation launch

I was half-expecting this to be a lightweight, watery foundation from the description, but it turned out to actually be more of a creamy foundation instead. And I'll admit that I've basically been procrastinating on this review because there were so many foundation/BB cushion/base product launches in the start of the year, that I just never quite got around to blogging about it! But now that it's already past the first half of the year, I figure I should get a move on this review, finally. So here you are!

So without further ado, let's start the review! And as with all reviews, let's begin at my favourite place - the ingredients list!

The Body Shop Fresh Nude Foundation Ingredients

The main ingredients in the product are emollients (Diheptyl Succinate, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Cetyl Dimethicone, Sclerocarya Birrea Seed Oil) a silicone (Cyclohexasiloxane) which evaporates upon application, UV filters (Octocrylene, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Titanium Dioxide), emulsifiers (PEG 30 Dipolyhydroxystearate), thickening agents (Magnesium Sulfate), Alcohol Denat., humectants (Glycerin), and suspending agents (Disteardimonium Hectorite). After these ingredients, we hit the first preservative (Phenoxyethanol), so we know that at this point, we've looked at the bulk of the ingredients that give the product its key properties.

The rest of the ingredients include various preservatives, some of which also have humectant properties (Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Benzoate, BHT, Sorbic Acid), emulsifiers (Ammonium C6-16 Perfluoroalkylethyl Phosphate), pH adjusters (Sodium Hydroxide), masking agents and fragrances (p-Anisic Acid, Parfum), emollients (Capryloyl Glycerin/Sebacic Acid Copolymer), and a few plant extracts and oils (Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Rosa Alba Flower Extract), humectants (Propylene Glycol, Sodium Hyaluronate).

The Body Shop Fresh Nude Foundation: Also has decent UV protection with SPF15

From the ingredients lists, we can see that the foundation is formulated to be pretty emollient, with some plant oils, and decent sun protection, too. While there is alcohol in the foundation, I'm not too concerned as it's about a third of the way down the ingredients list, and thus not likely to be there in large enough amounts to make the product particularly drying or sensitizing. It's also got fairly stable sun protection, and while I would normally recommend a separate sunscreen rather than relying on your foundation for sunscreen (as you might know from my sunscreens tips post), but I suppose if you're in a rush and you don't have time to layer products, this is still better than nothing.

So now that we've looked at the formula, let's see how it actually performs! First though, I have to say I really love the pump packaging of the foundation. Pumps are awesome - they're hygienic, they're easy to travel with, and they minimize the product's exposure to light and air. So that's great!

The foundation itself is pretty typical in terms of texture and skinfeel, as far as foundations go. It's a creamy liquid, and thicker than those "watery"-type foundations that were in vogue a while back. It has good pigmentation, and not much scent one way or the other. It pretty much applies like a typical foundation too - it's easily blended out, but can be built up a little for more coverage.

Above, you can see the swatch of the shade closest to my slightly-lighter-than-NC20 skintone, Chelsea Porcelain 10. This is one of the lighter shades, and is actually a little fairer than my actual skin colour, but it was the closest match, as the next shade up, Bali Vanilla 20, was a little too dark. So I guess I was sort of in-between shades, but the Chelsea Porcelain 10 shade seemed to blend a bit better, so I picked that.

Anyway, as you can see, the coverage of the foundation is pretty nice. I'd classify it as medium to full coverage, and if you have any minor imperfections, they should be pretty well-covered by the foundation. If you have major discolouration, though, then a separate concealer is always a good idea. You can also see that the texture of the foundation is not bad as well - it's on the matte side, although it doesn't look super flat and dull. Below, you can see a second swatch at an angle to get a better sense of the foundation's finish.

And of course, with a foundation review, an FOTD is in order! So here's my very simple FOTD with the Fresh Nude Foundation. As you can see, the coverage is pretty good, hiding most of my blemishes, although my undereye circles still are partially visible. Also, you can see that the finish is quite matte, although it doesn't give the smoothed-out, flawless finish I was hoping for, perhaps because it has less silicones than the average foundation. You can see from the photo below that you can see some minor surface unevenness on my skin in terms of texture. On the whole it's not bad, but I'm just nitpicking a little here for the sake of my review. I imagine though, if you have any major surface lumps, bumps and uneveness, then it could potentially end up highlighting those.

Below is what I wore on my face. Yes you can tell it was a rushed day because I only wore two products.

When I wore the foundation, I found it had good staying power. It pretty much lasted a whole sedentary day without oxidizing on me, although of course some shine broke through at the end of the day, and the finish didn't quite look as nice as it did at the start. But that's typical for most foundations I've tried, so it wasn't anything to complain about.

The Body Shop Fresh Nude Foundation: An emollient foundation with great coverage, and good lasting power

So, would I recommend The Body Shop's Fresh Nude Foundation? Sure, why not? At S$32.90, it's actually one of the more affordable foundations out there on the market, and I daresay comparable with the price of some drugstore foundations out there. But despite its price tag, it's got very nice coverage, a thicker, creamy texture with an emollient formulation that would be good for drier skins. It also has pretty good lasting power to boot. I think the people who won't like this foundation are probably people with very oily skins who want a more thin-textured foundation, or people who want something more sheer. I also think that for people with major surface textural unevenness, then this foundation might highlight the unevenness. But otherwise, I think it has a lot going for it.

The Bottom Line: The Body Shop Fresh Nude Foundation is a creamy, emollient formula with good coverage and staying power.
